1 kg COFS 29 Multicut Fodder Sorghum Seeds – Sorghum bicolor | Phytosanitary Certificate Included
Product Description
COFS 29 is a productive multicut fodder sorghum capable of yielding approximately 160–170 tonnes of green fodder per hectare annually under favourable growing conditions and recommended management. It can provide around six to seven harvests per year, making it an economical choice for dairy farms and livestock operations requiring a regular supply of fresh green forage.
Developed by Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, COFS 29—also written as CO (FS) 29—is a vigorous, fast-growing forage variety with good tillering and reliable regrowth after cutting. Its leafy, palatable biomass is suitable for cattle, dairy cows, buffaloes, sheep and goats.
One 1 kg pack is sufficient for approximately 0.2 hectare, or 2,000 m² (about 0.5 acre), when planted at the recommended seed rate.

Planting Instructions
Climate and Sowing Season
COFS 29 is a warm-season forage crop. Plant after the danger of frost has passed and when soil temperatures are suitable for sorghum germination. In tropical and subtropical regions, sowing may be planned around the local rainy season or under irrigation.
Planting dates vary by country and climate. Buyers should consult a local agricultural adviser for region-specific guidance.
Soil and Land Preparation
-
Select fertile, well-drained soil.
-
Avoid locations exposed to prolonged waterlogging.
-
Plough or cultivate the field two or three times to produce a fine, weed-free seedbed.
-
Incorporate well-decomposed farmyard manure or compost during land preparation.
-
Base additional fertilizer applications on a soil test and local recommendations.
Seed Rate and Spacing
-
Recommended seed rate: Approximately 5 kg per hectare.
-
Row-to-row spacing: Approximately 30 cm.
-
Plant-to-plant spacing: Approximately 15 cm.
-
Sow the seeds shallowly in moist soil and cover lightly.
-
Avoid planting too deeply, as this may reduce emergence.
Irrigation and Crop Care
-
Irrigate immediately after sowing when adequate rainfall is unavailable.
-
Maintain consistent soil moisture during germination and early growth.
-
Once established, irrigate approximately every 7–10 days, adjusting for soil type, rainfall and temperature.
-
Carry out the first weeding around 25–30 days after sowing.
-
Perform further weed control when necessary.
-
Apply nutrients after each cutting according to soil-test results and local agronomic guidance to support vigorous regrowth.
Maturity and Harvesting
-
First harvest: Approximately 75–80 days after sowing.
-
Subsequent harvests: Approximately every 50 days.
-
Expected cutting frequency: Around six to seven harvests annually under suitable conditions.
-
Cut above ground level and leave sufficient stubble to support healthy regrowth.
-
Harvest timing may be adjusted according to plant development, climate and the desired balance between fodder quality and biomass yield.
Livestock-Feeding Uses
COFS 29 may be used as green-chopped fodder for:
-
Dairy cows
-
Beef cattle
-
Buffaloes
-
Goats
-
Sheep
It can also be used for silage when harvested and processed correctly. Introduce new fodder gradually and incorporate it into a balanced ration appropriate for the animal’s age, body weight and production stage.
