Citrus medica, commonly known as Citron, is one of the earliest citrus species, prized for its large, fragrant, and thick-rinded fruits. Native to Southeast Asia, this evergreen shrub or small tree can grow 2–4 meters tall with glossy green leaves and fragrant white to purplish flowers. The fruits are elongated, oblong to oval, with a very thick peel that is aromatic and rich in essential oils. Unlike other citrus fruits, the pulp of Citron is sparse and dry, while the rind is highly valued in culinary uses, traditional medicine, and religious rituals. It is often candied, preserved, or used for zesting and flavoring.
